Well this past week-end we took a well needed break away
from our family and our village. According to PC policy we are only allowed to
leave one week-end a month (until December at In-Service Training.) We decided
to use our one week-end away to visit a co-worker from Eric’s School. Her name
is Barbara or Poladi. We stayed with her, her husband her three sons and her
niece (the baby that I am clearly in love with haha). Barbara showed us all around her area and showed us off like a shiny new
toy to all her family. It was really fun! We met all three of her sisters and
one of her brothers, along with her mother. We even got to go to church and
meet a lot of members from the community. We visited several of Eric’s other
co-workers that live in that village. The education college is located there
(Nchabaleng) so a lot of teachers live there and commute to work. Each
Colleague gave us a bag of laundry soap (as a welcoming gift) and cold drink
(soda) along with some crackers. It was so fun to get to see them all in their
personal surroundings. It helps a lot with integration when you get to know the
people at their homes instead of out and about. Church was an interesting
experience. It involved a lot of screaming (passionately), awesome dancing,
beautiful singing and a few vanquished evil spirits! Haha. It was definitely an
interesting experience, a 4 hour experience! Haha We came home with Barbara’s
husband (who is a police commander in our area) on Monday morning. Nchabaleng
(where we stayed for the week-end) is about 40 minutes away from where we live
and quite a convenient little trip. The teachers have a private taxi that they
contract out so it takes them from door to door every day. There are 2
volunteers from our group placed in Nchabaleng so we had the opportunity to
have lunch and chat with them too! Overall it was a great week-end and a well
needed escape. :D Enjoy the few pictures we got! (side note: our camera charger
is on its way in a package from my mom (THANKS) so you can expect to see
more/better pictures as soon as that arrives.)
